REPUBLIC ACT No. 4840

An Act to Establish, in Honor of the Late President Sergio Osmeña, an Osmeña Memorial Building, Under the Supervision and Control of the Osmeña Memorial Commission Created Hereunder, to Appropriate Funds Therefor, and for Other Purposes

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:

Section 1. There is hereby established, in honor of the late President Sergio Osmeña, an Osmeña Memorial Building, under the supervision and control of the Osmeña Memorial Commission at the site of the Old Ayuntamiento in Intramuros, Manila which shall be of the same design as the original Ayuntamiento and shall house and contain all records, relics, plaques, mementos, artifacts, busts in bronze and all other matters concerning the late President Sergio Osmeña, Sr., as well as provide suitable space for an archives section, display rooms, conference and seminar rooms, a library, and all other matters and activities involving the collection and study of historical materials pertaining to the development of his life and labors.

Section 2. There is hereby created an Osmeña Memorial Commission, consisting of a chairman and two members, who shall be appointed by the President of the Philippines, with the consent of the Commission on Appointments, and who shall each serve a term of six years.1avvphi1 They shall serve without compensation.

Section 3. The Commission shall organize itself within three months after the effectivity of this Act.

Section 4. To carry out the purposes of this Act, there is hereby appropriated, out of the funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of one million pesos for the fiscal years nineteen hundred sixty-seven, and thereafter, the sum of two hundred fifty thousand pesos shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act the operation and maintenance of the Osmeña Memorial Building.

Section 5. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
