REPUBLIC ACT No. 1617

An Act to Create Five Hundred Positions of Letter-Carrier for Post Offices Still Without Letter-Carrier and Provide Funds for the Salaries Therefor

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippine Congress Assembled:

Section 1. There are hereby created five hundred positions of letter-carrier in the Bureau of Posts at a salary of one thousand four hundred and forty pesos per annum each, priority to be given to municipalities or municipal districts where there is mail to be distributed but whose post offices do not have letter-carriers. Increases in those towns having mail service will be made in accordance with the following factors: area, population and volume of mail to be distributed.1âшphi1

Section 2. The sum of seven hundred twenty thousand pesos is hereby appropriated, out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to carry out the purposes of this Act.

Section 3. Pending the availability of the funds herein appropriated, the Director of Posts is hereby authorized to utilize any savings in the Bureau for the purpose of paying the salaries of the letter-carriers who may be employed under the authority of this Act.

Section 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
