[ Proclamation No. 250, September 9, 2002 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM SEPTEMBER 11 TO 18 OF EVERY YEAR AS NATIONAL INTERFAITH WEEK

WHEREAS, the National Social Action Council (NASAC) was created by Executive Order No. 182-A, as amended by Presidential Decree No. 294, to, among others, effect and implement the articulation, cultivation, development, and dissemination of common national goals and strategies in social and economic development among the Government, the ecumenical faiths, and the private sector;

WHEREAS, the act of terrorism that struck the United States on September 11, 2001 stirred a global consciousness to call for unification of all sectors of society towards global peace;

WHEREAS, the Philippines being a free and democratic country is a multi-faith society, whose people belong to different religious groups, sects or denominations;

WHEREAS, the different religious groups, sects or denominations in the Philippines should be given the opportunity to discuss among themselves issues and matters pertaining not only to their respective beliefs and practices but also, more importantly, the realization of a truly unified and peaceful society.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from September 11 to 18 of every year as National Interfaith Week.1aшphi1
