[ Proclamation No. 237, August 20, 2002 ]

DECLARING FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 2002, AS A SPECIAL NON-WORKING DAY IN THE CITY OF DAVAO

WHEREAS, the City of Davao has traditionally held a week-long Kadayawan festival on the month of August as a thanksgiving by the people of the City of Davao and its local government for the abundant harvests of fruits and other farm produce and the lush growth of flowering ornamental plants;

WHEREAS, the Kadayawan festival is also an occasion for the various indigenous communities to display their peculiar cultural sports and distinct tribal arts, crafts and their significant contributions to Davao Citys development and rich culture;

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to celebrate this event with appropriate ceremonies.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27 of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Friday, August 23, 2002, as a special non-working day in the City of Davao. This supercedes the previous proclamation for August 16, 2002.
