DECLARING THE THIRD WEEK OF AUGUST OF EVERY YEAR AS BRAIN ATTACK AWARENESS WEEK

WHEREAS, the Stroke Society of the Philippines was organized in 1995 composed of multi-disciplinary professionals to help address the different concerns in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of brain attack at victims;

WHEREAS, the problem of stroke, or “Brain Attack”, continues to grow as one of the countrys serious health problems due to the growing prevalence of certain types of lifestyle and diet, which puts the Filipino people at high risk for the disease, and eventually will affect our national socio-economic development;

WHEREAS, the different strategies in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of brain attack should be vigorously pursued to reduce stroke-related deaths and disability, and to reduce the risk factors for said disease.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the Third Week of August of every year as Brain Attack Awareness Week.
