DECLARING SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2001, AS A SPECIAL NON-WORKING DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF QUEZON

WHEREAS, Sunday, November 4, 2001, marks the 160th death anniversary of Apolinario de la Cruz, better known as “Hermano Puli”, the great man from Lukban, Quezon;

WHEREAS, Hermano Puli rendered invaluable service in our country by founding the brotherhood popularly known as Confradia De Jesus;

WHEREAS, the brotherhood or religious organization that Hermano Puli founded spread like wildfire in the Province of Tayabas (now Quezon, Laguna and some towns in Batangas) which historical research has proved as one way of showing nationalism during that time;

WHEREAS, in line with the Decade of Nationalism, Nationhood and the Philippine Revolutionary Movement, it is fitting and proper to honor and emulate the heroism and patriotism of Apolinario (Hermano Puli) de la Cruz and give the people of Quezon Province full opportunity to commemorate his heroism with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me in Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27, of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Sunday, November 4, 2001, as a special non-working day in the Province of Quezon.1aшphi1
