DECLARING EID-UL-FITRE (FEAST OF RAMADAN) AS A SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY FOR THE YEAR 2001

WHEREAS, the EID-UL-FITRE is a day of prayer and celebration of our Muslim brothers and sisters ending the month-long fasting of RAMADAN;

WHEREAS, the date on which the EID-UL-FITRE falls varies from year to year, depending on the sighting of the new moon;

WHEREAS, there is a need for the Filipino people to commemorate the EID-UL-FITRE to further promote cultural understanding and integration;

WHEREAS, our fellow Muslims should have the full opportunity to properly observe and celebrate this important day;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare EID-UL-FITRE (FEAST OF RAMADAN) as a special (non-working) day throughout the country for the year 2001.1aшphi1
