DECLARING THE YEAR 2001 AS “NATIONAL YEAR OF VOLUNTEERS”

WHEREAS, the United Nations has declared Year 2001 as “International Year of Volunteers”;

WHEREAS, the Philippine National Red Cross advocates volunteer service and seeks to mobilize all sectors of society to promote volunteerism as a Filipino way of life;

WHEREAS, the operation of the Philippine National Red Cross depends on volunteers as a rich human resource who render humanitarian act that has saved thousands of human lives;

WHEREAS, the Philippine National Red Cross as an institution recognizes volunteerism as an emerging variable in any development undertaking;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the year 2001 as “National Year of Volunteers”.

I hereby call upon all residents of the Philippines to turn their thoughts to and be inspired to emulate the men, women and youth in our country who freely and voluntarily give part of themselves to help those in need.

I hereby designate the Philippine National Red Cross through its Volunteer Service to lead in the preparation and observance of this National Year of Volunteers.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
