DECLARING MONDAY, JULY 31, 2000, AS A SPECIAL DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF MARINDUQUE

WHEREAS, the National Historical Institute has already recognized the Battle of Paye, July 31, 1900, as the first officially recorded encounter between the American Troops and the Filipino Revolutionary Force in the Island of Marinduque;

WHEREAS, the Battle of Paye wherein our ancestors have shown positive values worthy of emulation should be accorded due importance like other historical events, especially on its centennial anniversary;

WHEREAS, it is only appropriate that the people of the Province of Marinduque, be given ample time to prepare the commemorative centenary rites of this event.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me in Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27, of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Monday, July 31, 2000, as a special day in the Province of Marinduque in commemoration of the centennial anniversary of the Battle of Paye.1aшphi1
