[ Proclamation No. 298, April 27, 2000 ]

DECLARING MAY 22 TO 26, 2000 AND THE FOURTH WEEK OF MAY EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “POSTHARVEST LOSS PREVENTION WEEK”

WHEREAS, the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension, an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, was established in May 24, 1978 to curb postharvest losses and maintain food and feed quality by generating and disseminating postharvest technologies;

WHEREAS, the 22nd Anniversary of the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension will be held in May 24, 2000 in Diliman, Quezon City;

WHEREAS, in support to the twin goals of the government, namely food security and poverty alleviation, it is necessary to highlight the role of postharvest research in both agricultural and economic development of the country;

WHEREAS, under the Agriculture and Fishery Modernization Act, the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension takes the lead in providing postharvest interventions to maintain the quality and increase the value of agricultural and fishery commodities for global competitiveness and sustainable development.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from May 22 to 26, 2000 and every third week of May thereafter as “Postharvest Loss Prevention Week” under the auspices of the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
