DECLARING 5-11 JUNE 2000 AS “PHILIPPINE-CHINA FRIENDSHIP WEEK”

WHEREAS, Friday, June 09, 2000, marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the Peoples Republic of China;

WHEREAS, Philippine relations with China have been among the most vigorous in Philippine history;

WHEREAS, the Peoples Republic of China is host to some 180,000 Filipinos, particularly in the Hongkong and Macau Special Administrative Regions;

WHEREAS, China ranks as one of the major trading partners of the Philippines;

WHEREAS, it is fitting that the people of the Philippines be given full opportunity to appreciate and commemorate the silver jubilee of Philippine-Chinese diplomatic relations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare 5 to 11 June 2000 as “Philippine-China Friendship Week.”
