[ Proclamation No. 43, November 4, 1998 ]

DECLARING NOVEMBER 15, 1998 AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “DON EUGENIO S. DAZA DAY” IN THE PROVINCE OF EASTERN SAMAR

WHEREAS, November 15, 1998, marks the 128th birth anniversary of the late revolutionary hero Eugenio S. Daza;

WHEREAS, Eugenio S. Daza rendered invaluable service to our country and to the Filipino people as educator, revolutionary leader, and member of the First Philippine Assembly in 1907;

WHEREAS, Eugenio S. Daza was the overall Commander of the Revolutionary Forces in the east coast of Samar during the 1896 Philippine Revolution, and was responsible for the victory of the Revolutionary Forces in the famous “Balangiga Massacre Encounter” on September 28, 1901;

WHEREAS, in line with the “Decade of the Filipino Nationalism, Nationhood and the Revolutionary Movement” it is fitting and proper to honor and emulate the heroism and patriotism of Eugenio S. Daza by affording the people of Eastern Samar full opportunity to commemorate the day with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare November 15, 1998 and every year thereafter as “Don Eugenio S. Daza Day” in the Province of Eastern Samar. The day, however, shall be a regular working and school day.
