DECLARING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 1998 AS HOTEL RESTAURANT MONTH

WHEREAS, the 36th Annual Congress of the International Hotel and Restaurant Association (IH & RA) will be held in the Philippines from 22-26 October 1998;

WHEREAS, the Philippines has committed to host the annual gathering to highlight the global competitiveness of our country in the area of tourism and the hospitality industry as well as generate worldwide awareness of the countrys capabilities and expertise in the conventions and meetings industry;

WHEREAS, the hosting by the Philippines of this prestigious international event will contribute positively to the countrys projection as a competitive tourism destination for leisure holidays, shopping, business, meetings/conventions, and may open up investment opportunities which will ultimately redound to more substantial economic benefits;

WHEREAS, the tourism industry, in general, and the hotel and restaurant sector, in particular, recognize the need to further promote awareness and instill in the minds of the Filipino people the importance and value of the hotel and restaurant industry in the social and economic life of our country, and generate public support to promote and develop the industry;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of October of 1998 as “HOTEL AND RESTAURANT MONTH”.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
