MALACAÑAN PALACE MANILA BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES [ Proclamation No. 35, October 13, 1998 ] DECLARING OCTOBER 25, INSTEAD OF FEBRUARY 17, AS PHILIPPINE MILITARY ACADEMY FOUNDATION DAY WHEREAS, the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the countrys premier military school, traces its roots to the Constabulary School created by the American colonial government purportedly on February 17, 1905 and has accordingly based its Foundation Day on that date; WHEREAS, a scholarly research work done by Col. Cesar Pobre (Ret), PMA Class 1952, found and concluded that the Academia Militar established by the President of the Philippine Revolutionary government and General-In-Chief Emilio Aguinaldo, on October 25, 1898, in the town of Malolos, Bulacan, is the more befitting institution to which the PMA should be anchored; WHEREAS, THE National Historical Institute to which the research work was referred concurred that October 25, 1898 would be a more appropriate date for reckoning the celebration of the PMA Foundation Day; WHEREAS, in situating its foundation in the Academia Militar of the Philippine Revolution, the PMA, in the context of Philippine history, acquires a greater meaning as it reflects our national heroes vision of an educational and training institution for a professional officers corps dedicated to the protection of the people and in the service of God and country.1aшphi1 NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare October 25 of every year as the Foundation Day of the Philippine Military Academy. The Philippine Military Academy shall take appropriate activities to commemorate its centennial on that date next and every year thereafter. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
