DECLARING THE TAÑON STRAIT SITUATED IN THE PROVINCES OF CEBU, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL AND NEGROS ORIENTAL AS A PROTECTED AREA PURSUANT TO RA 7586 (NIPAS ACT OF 1992) AND SHALL BE KNOWN AS TAÑON STRAIT PROTECTED SEASCAPE

Upon recommendation of the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and pursuant to the powers vested in me by law, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, do hereby set aside and declare Tañon Strait as a protected area under the category of Protected Seascape. As described in the Philippine Coast Pilot (6th ed., 1995), Tañon Strait is a narrow water passage bounded by the islands of Cebu in the East and Negros in the West, as shown in the DENR Map No. 05 with the following technical description:

Beginning from corner 1 located in latitude 11º 17" 37" and longitude 123º 43" 48", S 84º 15" 50" E, about 31,067 meters to corner 2 with latitude 11º 15" 53" and longitude 124º 00" 47";

thence, following the Cebu Island western shoreline on a southwest direction about 239,430 meters to corner 3 with latitude 9º 25" 06" and longitude 123º 20" 04";

thence, S 38º 08" 00" W, about 9,386 meters to corner 4 with latitude 9º 21" 06" and longitude 123º 16" 53";

thence, following the Negros Island eastern shoreline on a northeast direction about 139,035 meters to corner 5 with latitude 10º 55" 22" and longitude 123º 31" 41";

thence, N 43º 10" 54" E, about 30,753 meters to corner 6 with latitude 11º 07" 31" and longitude 123º 43" 16";

thence, following Bantayan Island eastern shoreline on a northeast-west direction about 29,187 meters to corner 1, point of beginning, containing an area of approximately 450 hectares, more or less subject to actual ground survey.

It shall be under the administrative jurisdiction of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and shall be administered in accordance to the provisions of the NIPAS Act.1aшphi1
