DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF MAY 1998 AS THE NATIONAL WEEK OF ACTION FOR WOMENS HEALTH

WHEREAS, since the 5th International Women and Health Meeting in Costa Rica in May 1987, the women NGO community, both locally and internationally, has meaningfully observed May 28 as an International Day of Action for Womens Health;

WHEREAS, last year, May 28 witnessed the launching of a nationwide campaign billed as “Filipino Women Call for Comprehensive Womens Health Care: Our Right to Health, Our Right to Life,” and that this campaign has enthusiastically given birth to and nurtured by womens institution and mass organizations;

WHEREAS, there is a need to create national awareness to the relevant and accessible health care system and programs for Filipino Women;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the last week of May 1998, as “National Week of Action for Womens Health”.
