DECLARING 1998 AS THE GOLDEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE MEMBERSHIP WITH THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANISATION (ILO)

WHEREAS, the Republic of the Philippines became a member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on May 19, 1948 and as such, has committed to pursue the core ideals of democracy, fight against poverty and protection of the working people;

WHEREAS, the Philippines desires to enhance its commitment to pursue the ideals and principles of the ILO;

WHEREAS, the government of the Republic of the Philippines, together with its social partners, the workers and employers organizations, would like to reaffirm its full support and cooperation with the ILOs mandate of promoting international peace and social justice;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare May 19, 1998 as the “Golden Anniversary of Philippine Membership with the ILO.”

For this purpose, I call upon the Secretary of Labor and Employment to spearhead and coordinate the activities nationwide to celebrate our golden anniversary celebration in close cooperation with our social partners, the employers and workers organizations:

I call upon all heads of the Department, Bureaus, Offices, Agencies and Instrumentalities of the Government specifically those involved in ILO projects, non-government organizations, peoples organizations and the private sector, to actively lead the events and programs to commemorate this golden anniversary celebration.

I call upon the Secretary of Education, Culture and Sports to direct all schools nationwide, both elementary and high school, to conduct ILO awareness activities.1aшphi1
