[ Proclamation No. 1174, March 6, 1998 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD 16-20 MARCH 1998 AS BREWING WEEK

WHEREAS, the countrys brewery industry, recognized as the pioneer in Southeast Asia, has developed into one of the largest and leading beer producers in the world;

WHEREAS, the industry generates substantial government revenues, significantly contributes to the countrys gross domestic product, and provides employment to thousands in the labor force;

WHEREAS, the Asian Brewing Conference of leading brewers in the world will be held in Manila from 16-20 March 1998 to discuss the state-of-the-art in brewery technology and prepare the industry for the challenges of the 21st century;

WHEREAS, the Government supports the objectives of the 1998 Asian Brewing Conference which shall further promote the local brewery industry as a partner in nation-building;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim the period 16-20 March 1998 as Brewing Week.1aшphi1

Towards the effective implementation of this Proclamation, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) shall provide support for the successful conduct of the 1998 Asian Brewing Conference in Manila. In this regard, the DTI may call upon the concerned government agencies and sectors for assistance in pursuing activities which shall promote 16-20 March 1998 as Brewing Week.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
