[ Proclamation No. 1170, March 4, 1998 ]

DECLARING FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, MARCH 6 AND 7, 1998, AS NON-WORKING SPECIAL DAYS IN THE PROVINCE OF DAVAO DEL NORTE

WHEREAS, Republic Act Nos. 8470, 8471, 8472 and 8473 respectively, mandate the creation of the Province of Compostela Valley from the Province of Davao del Norte; the constitution of the Municipalities of Babak, Samal and Kaputian of Samal Island, Province of Davao del Norte, into a component city to be known as the Island Garden City of Samal; the conversion of the Municipality of Tagum, Province of Davao del Norte, into a component city to be known as the City of Tagum; and the creation of the Municipality of Braulio E. Dujali, Province of Davao del Norte;

WHEREAS, the Commission on Elections under Resolution No. 2981, dated February 5, 1998, has scheduled the plebiscite date for the creation of the Province of Compostela Valley; the Island Garden City of Samal; the City of Tagum, and the Municipality of Braulio E. Dujali, on March 7, 1998;

WHEREAS, to enable the residents of the said provinces and municipalities to actively participate in the scheduled political exercise, there is a need to declare the plebiscite day and the day prior thereto as special days;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, 1998 as non-working special days in the Province of Davao del Norte.
