[ Proclamation No. 1161, February 6, 1998 ]

DECLARING FEBRUARY 11 OF EVERY YEAR AS GENERAL VICENTE R. LUKBAN DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF CAMARINES NORTE

WHEREAS, Gen. Vicente R. Lukban is one of our greatest revolutionary leaders recognized and revered for his significant role during the Philippine Revolution (1896-1898) and later in the outbreak of Filipino American War (1898-1902);

WHEREAS, Gen. Vicente R. Lukban figured himself as a worthy son of Camarines Norte being born in Labo, Camarines Norte, on February 11, 1860 and later served the same municipality as Municipal Councilor and Juez de Paz in the prime years of his life;

WHEREAS, as an outstanding leader of the revolution, Gen. Vicente R. Lukban became an active member of the revolutionary forces of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, in-charge of the military operations in Bicolandia and commanding general of the Filipino forces in Samar and Leyte where he took part in the attack against the American forces in Balangiga, Eastern Samar; and later became governor of Tayabas, now the Province of Quezon;

WHEREAS, Gen. Vicente R. Lukbans illustrious life and heroism have until today provided genuine ideals and inspiration for the present and future Filipino generations;

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to give the people of Camarines Norte and the concerned officials of the local and national government enough time to prepare for this special event;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare February 11 of every year as General Vicente R. Lukban Day in the Province of Camarines Norte.1aшphi1 The day, however, shall be a regular working and school day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
