DECLARING APRIL 27, 1997 AS SPECIAL DAY IN LAPU-LAPU CITY

WHEREAS, April 27, 1997 marks the 476th anniversary of the Battle of Mactan which is the first recorded struggle of Filipinos against foreign invasion, during which Lapu-Lapu and his men defeated the superior strength of Spanish forces under the command of Ferdinand Magellan;

WHEREAS, the Battle of Mactan is among the significant events in Philippine History and serves as testimony to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Filipinos; and,

WHEREAS, the residents of Lapu-Lapu City should be given full opportunity to celebrate this historic event with fitting ceremonies.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27 of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Sunday, April 27, 1997, as a Special Day for the City of Lapu-Lapu.
