DECLARING THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1997 AS “JAMES GORDON DAY” IN THE CITY OF OLONGAPO

WHEREAS, Thursday, February 20, 1997, marks the 30th death anniversary of Mayor James L. Gordon known as the “Father of Olongapo”;

WHEREAS, James L. Gordon, an esteemed and dedicated civic leader, led the crusade to gain independence for Olongapo from American control and realized his peoples aspiration when the then Olongapo reservation was turned over to the Philippine government;

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to honor and emulate the heroic role, efforts and sacrifices of the late Mayor James L. Gordon and to give the people of Olongapo City full opportunity to commemorate the day with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Thursday, February 20, 1997 as “James L. Gordon Day” in the City of Olongapo.1aшphi1
