[ Proclamation No. 1112, October 24, 1997 ]

DECLARING SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1997 AS “DON EUGENIO DAZA DAY”, IN THE PROVINCE OF EASTERN SAMAR

WHEREAS, Saturday, November 15, 1997, marks the 127th birth anniversary of the late revolutionary hero Eugenio S. Daza;

WHEREAS, Eugenio S. Daza rendered in valuable service to our country and to the Filipino people as educator, revolutionary leader, and member of the First Philippine Assembly in 1907;

WHEREAS, Major Eugenio S. Daza was the overall Commander of the Revolutionary Forces in the east coast of Samar during the 1896 Philippine Revolution, and was responsible for the victory of the Revolutionary Forces in the famous “Balangiga Massacre Encounter” on September 28, 1901;

WHEREAS, in line with “The Decade of Nationalism, Nationhood, and the Philippine Revolutionary Movement”, it is fitting and proper to honor and emulate the heroism and patriotism of Major Eugenio S. Daza by affording the people of Eastern Samar, full opportunity to commemorate the day with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Saturday, November 15, 1997 as “Don Eugenio S. Daza Day” in the Province of Eastern Samar. The day, however, shall be a regular working and school day.1aшphi1
