DECLARING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER OF EVERY YEAR AS THE “PHILIPPINE COFFEE MONTH”

WHEREAS, coffee has been identified as a high-value commodity and an important agricultural resource and export product of the country;

WHEREAS, the economic benefits derived from production, processing and marketing of coffee have contributed to the nations drive toward poverty alleviation, creation of jobs in the countryside, and generation of foreign exchange earnings for the country;

WHEREAS, coffee as a product needs to be promoted to highlight its significance not only to the economy but also to the growing coffee drinking population of both Filipinos and foreigners in the country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of October of every year as “Philippine Coffee Month.”

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its International Coffee Organization Certifying Agency (ICOCA), in coordination with the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) shall plan, organize, and coordinate the activities for the month-long celebration.

In the celebration of the Philippine Coffee Month, the Department of Agriculture through its National Agricultural and Fishery Council (NAFC), in collaboration with other government agencies and the private sector, including government-recognized coffee foundations and associations, shall spearhead the holding of an annual “National Search for Excellence in Coffee Production” beginning next year and every year thereafter.1aшphi1
