DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST OF EVERY YEAR AS SOROPTIMIST WEEK

WHEREAS, Soroptimism is founded on two things: friendship and service activities of executive, business and professional women united by the ideals of Soroptimism – the sincerity of friendship, the joy of achievement, the dignity of service, the integrity of profession, and the love of country;

WHEREAS, since the founding of Soroptimist International seventy-six (76) years ago, more than 3,500 occupations and professions of women of all ages and ethnic groups from all walks of life and cultures in 100 countries have been represented by university presidents, farmers, office managers, business owners, physicians, health care professionals, educators, accountants, lawyers, professional social workers, and many other women leaders in various fields of service and profession;

WHEREAS, in 1966, thirty-one (31) years ago, Soroptimist International was introduced in the Philippines, spanning more than three (3) decades of exemplary service in economic and social development, education, environment, health, human rights, and the advancement of the status of women, and international goodwill and understanding;

WHEREAS, the Soroptimist International of the Philippine Region, over the past thirty-one (31) years has proven itself to country and people as a viable partner of government in the over-all joint effort of improving the quality of life, particularly in many deprived, depressed and underserved areas;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the last week of August of every year as Soroptimist Week.1aшphi1
