DECLARING MONDAY, AUGUST 11, 1997 AS A SPECIAL DAY IN THE PROVINCE OF SAMAR

WHEREAS, Monday, August 11, 1841, marks the official recognition by Spain of the island of Samar as a province independent of Leyte and Cebu which occasion is now celebrated on the island as Samar Day;

WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Samar be given full opportunity to celebrate this historic event with appropriate ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27 of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Monday, August 11, 1997 as a special day in the Province of Samar.
