DECLARING THE MONTH OF JUNE 1997 AS ASIAN TRIATHLON

CHAMPIONSHIPS MONTH

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 604, series of 1989, declared the period from 1990 to 2000 as the “Decade of Physical Fitness and Sports”;

WHEREAS, the VIth Asian Triathlon Championships is slated at the Subic Bay Freeport on 21 and 22 June 1997 and its auxiliary event, the Asian Triathlon Confederation Congress, on 20 June 1997;

WHEREAS, the said Championships to be participated in by all 15 member-federations of the Asian Triathlon Confederation will serve for the first time as the Qualifying Event for the Asian Elite Triathletes for the World Triathlon Championships slated in Perth, Australia in November and as the premier leg of the Asia Cup Series;

WHEREAS, the hosting of the VIth Asian Triathlon Championships would contribute to the overall eco-tourism drive of the government;

WHEREAS, to ensure the success of this sports event, the cooperation of both public and private sectors is essential;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of June 1997 as the VIth Asian Triathlon Championships Month. The Organizing Committee of the VIth Asian Triathlon Championships is directed to take the lead in planning, disseminating information and conducting the said sports event.1aшphi1
