DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER 12 TO 18, 1996 AS “PHILIPPINE COFFEE WEEK” AND AUTHORIZING THE HOLDING OF AN ANNUAL SEARCH FOR EXCELLENCE IN COFFEE PRODUCTION

WHEREAS, coffee has been identified as a high-value commodity and important agricultural resource and export product of the country;

WHEREAS, the economic benefits derived from production, processing and marketing of coffee have contributed to the nations drive toward poverty alleviation, creation of jobs in the countryside, and generation of foreign exchange earnings for the country;

WHEREAS, coffee as a product, needs to be promoted to highlight its significance not only to the economy but also to the growing coffee drinking population of both Filipinos and foreigners in the country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from October 12 to 18, 1996 as “Philippine Coffee Week”.1aшphi1

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its International Coffee Organization Certifying Agency (ICOCA), in coordination with the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) shall plan, organize, and coordinate the activities for the week-long celebration.

In celebration of the Philippine Coffee Week, the Department of Agriculture through its National Agricultural and Fishery Council (NAFC), in collaboration with other government agencies and the private sector, including government-recognized coffee foundations and associations, shall spearhead the holding of an annual “National Search for Excellence in Coffee Production” starting in 1996 in celebration of the National Coffee Week.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
