DECLARING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1996, AS A SPECIAL DAY IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF LORETO, SURIGAO DEL NORTE

WHEREAS, Thursday, October 17 marks the date when the advance liberation forces of the United States Army landed at Campintac Point which paved the way for General Douglas McArthurs landing at White Beach, Palo, Leyte;

WHEREAS, this historic day should properly and fittingly be observed to immortalize the strong spirit of liberation, which was paramount in the hearts and minds of the Filipino people, particularly the people of Loreto, Surigao del Norte, during the short-lived enemy occupation;

WHEREAS, it is only proper to give the people of Loreto, Surigao del Norte, full opportunity to commemorate the occasion with appropriate activities that would actualize the preservation of the principles of freedom, liberty, and nationalism as components of the totality of Filipino values.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Thursday, October 17, 1996, as a special day in the Municipality of Loreto, Surigao del Norte.1aшphi1
