[ Proclamation No. 804, June 10, 1996 ]

CALLING ON ALL OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES IN GOVERNMENT, BOTH NATIONAL AND LOCAL, TO JOIN THE PHILIPPINE CENTENNIAL MOVEMENT WITHIN THE PERIOD 12 JUNE 1996 TO 30 NOVEMBER 1996

WHEREAS, in just two years the Filipino nation will commemorate the centennial of the proclamation of Philippine Independence;

WHEREAS, the National Centennial Commission, reconstituted under Executive Order No. 128, has seen it fit that a Movement be established to actively involve the greater number of Filipinos in the forthcoming 100th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence;

WHEREAS, the Movement will not only galvanize the citizenry towards the centennial of the 12 June 1898 event but also instill in them a greater sense of history and nationhood and the values that every freedom-loving and nationalistic citizen ought to imbibe;

WHEREAS, by joining the Philippine Centennial Movement, a member will be afforded many privileges pertaining to the celebrations of the said centenary, including access to information and other materials relative to the celebrations connected with the 12 June 1898 centennial, and as a consumer of products and services;

WHEREAS, officials and employees in government should be the first to be involved in the Movement so that they may properly inform and motivate others outside of the government service on the activities and events surrounding the commemoration of the centennial of Philippine Independence.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby call on all officials and employees in government, both in the national and local levels, including those in government-owned or controlled corporations, to join the Philippine Centennial Movement within the period 12 June 1996 (Independence Day) to 30 November 1996 (Bonifacio Day). I hereby enjoin the heads of each department, office, agency, bureau or instrumentality in government, including those of government-owned or controlled corporations or entities, to establish in their respective offices a Philippine Centennial Movement chapter to coordinate with the Philippine Centennial Movement Committee of the National Centennial Commission.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
