[ Proclamation No. 791, April 26, 1996 ]

DECLARING SATURDAY, APRIL 27, 1996 AS A SPECIAL DAY IN THE CITY OF LAPU-LAPU, ISLAND OF MACTAN, PROVINCE OF CEBU

WHEREAS, on April 21, 1521, despite the superior strength of the Spanish colonizers under the command of Ferdinand Magellan, Lapu-Lapu led his men and defeated them at Mactan in the first recorded struggle of Filipinos against foreign invasion;

WHEREAS, in order to preserve and enhance the citys glorious history and its historical importance to the nation as a whole, it is fitting that the people of Lapu-Lapu City be given the opportunity to celebrate the occasion with appropriate ceremonies;

WHEREAS, the Citys Charter Anniversary on April 27, 1996 is a fitting occasion for such celebrations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27, of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Saturday, April 27, 1996 as a special day in Lapu-Lapu City.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
