DECLARING 17TH MAY 1996 AS “PHILIPPINE ATHLETICS DAY TOWARDS ATLANTA”

WHEREAS, the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) is a member of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF);

WHEREAS, during the meeting held by the IAAF Council last December 10-11, 1995 in Monaco, France, it was decided that a “World Athletics Day Towards Atlanta, 96” will be held on 17th May 1996 to show the support of the IAAF for the Atlanta Olympic Games;

WHEREAS, all 206 IAAF member federations, including the PATAFA, will join in this important international celebration by organizing symbolic athletic competitions for young people in their respective countries on 17th May 1996;

WHEREAS, to ensure the success of this special sporting event, the cooperation of both the public and private sectors is essential;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare 17th May 1996 as “Philippine Athletics Day Towards Atlanta.” The organizing committee of the Philippine World Athletics Day is directed to act as the lead agency in planning, disseminating information and conducting the said sporting event.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed hereto.
