ESTABLISHING SARANGANI BAY AND A PORTION OF THE MUNICIPAL WATERS OF MAITUM, KIAMBA, AND MAASIM SARANGANI PROVINCE AS PROTECTED SEASCAPE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROTECTING AND MAINTAINING ITS COASTAL AND MARINE RESOURCES FOR THE BENEFIT AND ENJOYMENT OF THE PEOPLE OF THE PHILIPPINES

Upon recommendation of the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources and by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby reserve, set aside, and designate as Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape under the general administration of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the management of a Multi-sectoral group composed of DENR, Non-Government Agency, Local Government Units, People Organizations, Academe, the Non-Government Organizations of South Cotabato, Sarangani and General Santos (SOCSARGEN) as also stipulated in Republic Act No. 7856 (NIPAS Act of 1992), for the purpose of protecting and conserving its coastal and marine resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of the Philippines, and withdraw from any lease and other disposition, subject to private rights if there are any, parcels of the public domain in Sarangani bay and portion of the municipal waters of Maitum, Kiamba, and Maasim, Sarangani Province, Island of Mindanao, which is more particularly described as follows:

Bounded on the South by the Celebes Sea; on the West-Northwest from corner 15 to corner 18 by the Municipalities of Maitum, Kiamba and Maasim; on the North from corner 18 to corner 20 by the City of General Santos; on the East-Southeast from corner 22 to corner 1 by the Municipalities of Alabel, Malapatan and Glan.

Beginning at a point marked “1” on the map on the ground at Tinaka Point, Municipality of Glan, thence

N. 60° 0 ‘ W., 13,650 m., to corner 3, a buoy;
N. 60° 0 ‘ W., 10,000 m., to corner 4, a buoy;

Following the shoreline from the Maitum municipal boundary generally in a Southeasterly direction of about 19,950 meters straight distance to corner 16, a point at mouth of Pangay river;

Following the shoreline from the Maitum-Kiamba municipal boundary generally in a southeasterly direction of about 37,900 meters straight distance to corner 17, a point at mouth of Talub River;

Following the shoreline from Kiamba-Maasim municipal boundary in generally Southeast-Northeasterly direction of about 30,550 meters straight distance to corner 18, a point of Siguil River;

Following the shoreline from the Maasim-General Santos City boundary in generally Northeasterly direction of about 21,550 meters straight distance to corner 19, a point at mouth of Buayan River;

Following the shoreline from General Santos City-Alabel municipal boundary generally in a Southeasterly direction of about 7,950 meters straight distance to corner 20, a point at mouth of Little Land River;

Following the shoreline from Alabel-Malapatan boundary generally in Southwesterly direction of about 13,500 meters straight distance to corner 21, a MBM concrete monument at mouth of a river;

Following the shoreline from MBM No. 2, Cad 1093-D, Malapatan-Glan municipal boundary generally in Southwest-Southeasterly direction of about 30,650 meters straight distance to corner 22, a Light House at Baulaki;

Following the shoreline generally Southeasterly direction of about 1,600 meters straight distance to point of the beginning, containing an area of approximately Two Hundred Fifteen Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty (215,950) hectares.1aшphi1

The area is reserved and established for the purpose of protecting and conserving its coastal and marine resources for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of the Philippines, in view of its ecological, scientific, educational and recreational values, thereby making it a part of the Integrated Protected Areas System (IPAS), in consonance with the existing laws, rules and regulations and these that shall be promulgated thereafter.
