DECLARING MARCH 22, 1996 AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS GENERAL EMILIO F. AGUINALDO DAY, AND DESIGNATING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, CULTURE AND SPORTS TO TAKE CHARGE OF THE ANNUAL CELEBRATION

WHEREAS, March 22, 1869 marks the birth of General Emilio Famy Aguinaldo;

WHEREAS, through his noble and valiant efforts, General Aguinaldo led the Filipino people in declaring the nation sovereign and independent from all foreign colonizers;

WHEREAS, the actions of General Aguinaldo inevitably led to the Declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898 from which the nation was hailed as the first constitutional democracy in Asia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare March 22, 1996 and every year thereafter as General Emilio F. Aguinaldo Day in celebration of the birth of a national hero who has led the country in declaring Philippine Independence.1aшphi1

For the purpose of formulating plans and devising ways and means for the effective execution of appropriate activities, programs and projects for the commemoration of General Aguinaldo Day, the Department of Education, Culture and Sports shall take charge of the annual celebration.

The Department of Education, Culture and Sports is empowered to call on any department, bureau, office or agency of the government, including government-owned and controlled corporations, for such assistance as it may need in the discharge of its functions relative to the annual celebration.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
