[ Proclamation No. 663, October 4, 1995 ]

DECLARING DECEMBER 1995 AS VICTORIO C. EDADES CENTENNIAL MONTH

WHEREAS, Article XIV, Section 15 of the Constitution states that “Arts and letters shall enjoy the patronage of the State. The State shall conserve, promote, and popularize the nations historical and cultural heritage and resources as well as article creations”;

WHEREAS, Victorio C. Edades, born on December 23, 1895, in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, was proclaimed National Artist for Painting in 1976;

WHEREAS, the extent body of works of National Artist Victorio C. Edades constitutes a national heritage that should be preserved and promoted;

WHEREAS, Victorio Edades is regarded as the Father of Modern Art in the Philippines;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare December 1995 as Victorio C. Edades Centennial Month.

All agencies of the government, in coordination with the private sector, are enjoined to undertake activities in accordance with the spirit of this Proclamation.1aшphi1

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines and other cultural agencies, is hereby tasked to take the lead in carrying out the appropriate activities to mark the Centennial.

IN WITNESS WHEREFORE, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
