DECLARING OCTOBER 21 OF EVERY YEAR AS NATIONAL ARCHIVES DAY

WHEREAS, the Records Management and Archives Office (RMAO), a cultural agency under the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), was formerly the Office of Archives that Spain turned over to the United States Government in accordance with the Treaty of Paris of 1898;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Commission, by authority of the President of the United States, created the Bureau of Archives under the Department of Public Instruction on October 21, 1901;

WHEREAS, the Records Management and Archives Office (RMAO) annually celebrates National Archives Day to commemorate the creation of the Bureau of Archives and the concretization of archives work in the Philippines;

WHEREAS, it is essential to focus public attention on the role and importance of archives in the various national development efforts;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare October 21 of every year as National Archives Day.1aшphi1
