DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM AUGUST 6 TO 1995, AS PHILIPPINE LAWYERS ASSOCIATION WEEK

WHEREAS, the Philippine Lawyers Association (PLA) is a non-stock, non-profit voluntary bar association organized in 1945;

WHEREAS, the PLA is celebrating its 50th anniversary on the 11th of August, 1995;

WHEREAS, the PLA has been one of the pillars in upholding the dignity and promoting the well-being of the legal profession;

WHEREAS, it has participated in the maintenance in th country of a strong, upright and independent judiciary;

WHEREAS, from 1950 and until the declaration of martial law in 1972, the PLA has observed the Constitution Day on February 8 as a public observance with a program held as a fitting tribute to the framers thereof, led by Don Claro M. Recto;

WHEREAS, the PLA led the first nationwide observance of Law Day which by Presidential Proclamation was held on September 19, 1959;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from August 6 to 12, 1995, as the PHILIPPINE LAWYERS ASSOCIATION WEEK.
