DECLARING THE MONTHS OF APRIL AND MAY 1995 AS “ASIAN CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS MONTHS”

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 406, series of 1989, declared the period 1990 to 2000 as the “DECADE OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS”;

WHEREAS, the Philippines, after the past eleven years, has been bestowed again the rare and much coveted honor to host the 17th edition of the ASIAN CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS and the 4th ASIAN JUNIOR CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS from April 23 to May 3, 1995, by the Union Cyclist Internationale and the Asian Cycling Confederation;

WHEREAS, the ASIAN CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS in the Philippines was designated by the Union Cycling Internationale (UCI) as the qualifying round for the Asian cyclists in the 1986 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.;

WHEREAS, the hosting of the 17TH ASIAN CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS as well as the 4TH ASIAN JUNIOR CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS is an opportune occasion to showcase the countrys economic progress and development and tourism destinations;

WHEREAS, it is common knowledge that the success of these high-caliber championships will be insured only by the support and cooperation of the private and public sector;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the months of April and May 1995 as the “ASIAN CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS MONTHS” and direct the Organizing Committee to act as the lead agency in planning, marketing, disseminating information and conducting the cycling championships.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
