[ Proclamation No. 544, March 3, 1995 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM MARCH 3 TO 10, 1995, AS THE MUSLIM EIDL FITR (HARIRAYA PUASA) FESTIVAL WEEK

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the state to promote, encourage, and develop awareness of and active participation in significant events celebrated by our Muslim brothers and sisters;

WHEREAS, it is a tradition among Muslims of the Philippines and all over the world to observe Ramadhan, the season of fasting, a month characterized by contemplative prayers and fasting;

WHEREAS, under the Muslim Lunar Calendar (hijra) or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, the Eidl Fitr, which commemorates the end of fasting, falls on the 3rd day of March 1995;

WHEREAS, the Philippines adheres to and joins Muslims all over the world in the spirit of cooperation and amity in the most festive season in the Islamic calendar;

WHEREAS, it is but proper and fitting that this proclamation, consistent with PD 291, as amended by PD 322, be issued to institutionalize the culminating festival among several festivities commemorated in the Republic of the Philippines; as a positive instrument towards national unity, reconciliation, development, peaceful coexistence, and identity as a nation together with our Muslim brothers and sisters in the south and all over the world with a closer appreciation of their indigenous culture, history, ideals and aspirations, and recognition of their maximum potentials to the attainment of sustainable growth towards Philippines 2000.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from March 3 to 10, 1995, as the “Eidl Fitr (Hariraya Puasa) Festival Week.”

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 3rd day of March in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and ninety five.
