[ Proclamation No. 529, February 1, 1995 ]

DECLARING FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1995, AS A SPECIAL DAY IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF NASUGBU, BATANGAS, AND IN THE CITY OF TAGAYTAY

WHEREAS, the 50th anniversaries of the amphibious landing in Nasugbu, Batangas, and the first parachute landing in the Philippines, which occurred in Tagaytay, will be observed in said municipality/city on February 3, 1995;

WHEREAS, the landings of Allied Forces in Nasugbu on January 31, 1945, and in Tagaytay on February 3, 1945, were part of the continuing campaign for the liberation of the island of Luzon and the entire Philippines from enemy occupation during World War II;

WHEREAS, these events were made possible through effective ground support provided by the Filipino guerrillas and the other citizens of neighboring towns;

WHEREAS, the people of Nasugbu and Tagaytay affirm their continued loyalty to the principles of freedom and democracy;

WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the residents of Nasugbu and Tagaytay to be given time to reflect on the significance of the occasion and the full opportunity to celebrate the date with fitting ceremonies;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, February 3, 1995, as a Special Day in the Municipality of Nasugbu, Batangas, and in the City of Tagaytay.

For this purpose, I call upon the Local Governments of Nasugbu and Tagaytay to spearhead the activities to celebrate the landings in meaningful rites and ceremonies.1aшphi1
