DECLARING THE MONTH OF AUGUST 1994 AS A RURAL ELECTRIFICATION MONTH

WHEREAS, The Philippine Rural Electrification Program was instituted on August 4, 1969, with the signing into law of Republic Act No. 6038, which mandated the total electrification of the country on an area coverage service basis and through the electric cooperative as primary medium;

WHEREAS, the rural electric cooperative movement, represented by the 119 electric cooperatives that now comprise the membership of the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. or PHILRECA, will be commemorating the 25th Anniversary of its inception this coming August 1994;

WHEREAS, it is most fitting and appropriate at this time to acknowledge the gains and to generate public awareness and interest on the accomplishments made in rural electrification during the past 25 years and to focus attention on the on-going programs and projects in the electric cooperative sector in support of the goals of the Administrations national development plans towards Philippines 2000;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of August 1994 as Rural Electrification Month.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
