DECLARING A STATE OF PUBLIC CALAMITY (MAN-MADE) IN SULU PROVINCE IN VIEW OF THE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF THE OPERATIONS AGAINST THE ABU SAYAFF GROUP

Whereas, the National Disaster Coordinating Council recommends the declaration of a state of public calamity in Sulu Province due to the damage caused to the displaced families in Patikul relative to the operations against the Abu Sayaff Group:

WHEREAS, per report of the SouthCom Commander and the Presidential Assistant for Mindanao, there is a total of 1,200 displaced families in the areas;

WHEREAS, a declaration of a state of public calamity in the aforesaid province will facilitate the provision of appropriate rehabilitation measures and assistance normally extended by concerned agencies to the concerned area;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare a state of public calamity in Sulu Province;

All departments and other government agencies concerned are hereby directed to implement and execute relief and rehabilitation work in accordance with existing operational plans and directives and orders issued in connection with calamities.
