DECLARING A STATE OF PUBLIC CALAMITY IN THE PROVINCES OF REGION IX AND THE CITY OF PAGADIAN IN VIEW OF THE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF THE EARTHQUAKE OF 14 MAY 1994 IN SAID AREAS

WHEREAS, the National Disaster Coordinating Council recommends the declaration of a state of public calamity in the provinces in Region IX and Pagadian City due to the damage caused by the earthquake that occurred last Saturday, 14 May 1994;

WHEREAS, a declaration of a state of public calamity in the aforesaid provinces and city will facilitate the provision of appropriate rehabilitation measures and assistance normally extended by concerned agencies to the concerned areas.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare a state of public calamity in the provinces in Region IX and Pagadian City.

All departments and other government agencies concerned are hereby directed to implement and execute relief and rehabilitation work in accordance with existing operational plans and directives and orders issued in connection with calamities.
