[ Proclamation No. 384, May 17, 1994 ]

DECLARING MASINO INTARAY AS NATIONAL LIVING TREASURE FOR 1993

WHEREAS, the Constitution provides for State patronage of arts and letters;

WHEREAS, the category known as National Living Treasure was created under Republic Act No. 7355, dated July 22, 1991;

WHEREAS, this act shall mean a citizen or a group of citizens engaged in any traditional art uniquely Filipino, whose distinctive skills have reached such a high level of technical and artistic excellence and have been passed on and widely practiced by the present generation in his/her community with the same degree of technical and artistic competence;

WHEREAS, Masino Intaray of the Palawan cultural community in the province of Palawan, as a gifted poet, musician, epic chanter and storyteller, with the Basal and Kulilal Ensemble of Makagwa Valley, has been faithfully promoting and preserving the musical and literary tradition of the Palawan people;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, and upon recommendation of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and pursuant to Republic Act No. 7355, do hereby declare Masino Intaray as National Living Treasure for 1993.1aшphi1
