DECLARING GINAW BILOG AS NATIONAL LIVING TREASURE FOR 1993

WHEREAS, the Constitution provides for State patronage of arts and letters;

WHEREAS, the category known as National Living Treasure was created under Republic Act No. 7355, dated July 22, 1991;

WHEREAS, this act shall mean a citizen or a group of citizens engaged in any traditional art uniquely Filipino, whose distinctive skills have reached such a high level of technical and artistic excellence and have been passed on and widely practiced by the present generation in his/her community with the same degrees of technical and artistic competence;

WHEREAS, Ginaw Bilog of the Hanunoo Mangyan cultural community in the province of Oriental Mindoro has been faithfully preserving the Mangyan script and poetry by writing it on bamboo, and by promoting it in every occasion, so that this art will not be lost, but will be preserved for posterity;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, and upon recommendation of the National Commission for Culture and this Arts, and pursuant to Republic Act No. 7355, do hereby declare Ginaw Bilog as National Living Treasure for 1993.
