[ Proclamation No. 339, March 8, 1994 ]

DECLARING MARCH 23 OF EVERY YEAR AS “ARAW NG PALANAN”

WHEREAS, the town of Palanan, Isabela, is known as the last seat of the Philippine Republic under the presidency of General Emilio Aguinaldo;

WHEREAS, General Aguinaldo, a symbol of the Filipinos courage and determination to be free from foreign colonial domination, was captured by American military forces on March 23, 1901;

WHEREAS, in observance of the Decade of Filipino Nationalism, Nationhood and the Philippine Revolutionary Movements, 1988-1998 (Presidential Proclamation No. 269), it is but a fitting gesture that the people of Palanan, Isabela, commemorate the heroic deeds of General Aguinaldo and other Filipino patriots of the first Philippine Republic;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare March 23 of every year as “Araw ng Palanan.”
