DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF JANUARY, 1994 AS THE “ASIAN TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEK”

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 406, series of 1989, declared the period from 1990 to 2000 as the “DECADE OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS”;

WHEREAS, the Philippines is committed to host the 11th ASIAN TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS in Manila to be held on January 27 to 31, 1994;

WHEREAS, the hosting of the 11th ASIAN TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS is likewise an opportune occasion to show-case the country as a tourist destination and invite the world to visit the Philippines;

WHEREAS, to ensure the success of the biggest sporting event of 1994, the cooperation of both the public and private sector is essential;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the last week of January 1994 in the Sports Decade as the “ASIAN TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEK” and direct the Organizing Committee of the 11th Asian Taekwondo Championships to act as the lead agency in planning, disseminating information and conducting the sporting event.1aшphi1
