DECLARING THE NATIONWIDE OBSERVANCE IN THE SPORTS DECADE OF THE YEAR 1993 AS “ASIAN TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS YEARS”

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 406, series of 1989, declared the period from 1990 to 2000 as the “DECADE of PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS”;

WHEREAS, the Philippines is committed to host the 10th ASIAN TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Manila to be held on November 30 to December 4, 1993, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Asian Amateur Athletic Association;

WHEREAS, the housing of the 10th ASIAN TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS is likewise an opportune occasion to showcase the country as a tourist destination and invite the world to visit the Philippines;

WHEREAS, to ensure the success of the biggest sporting event of 1993, the cooperation of both the public and private sectors is essential;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the year 1993 in the Sports Decade as the “ASIAN TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS YEAR” and direct the Organizing Committee of the 10th Asian Track and Field Championships to act as the lead agency in planning, disseminating information and conducting the sporting event.

All heads of departments, bureaus, offices, agencies, local government units, government-owned and controlled corporations and instrumentalities of the government, particularly the Philippine Sports Commission, are hereby directed to give full assistance to the Organizing Committee to the 10th Asian Track and Field Championships.ℒαwρhi৷

Non-government organizations, the Philippine Olympic Committee and the private sector are hereby requested to lend their cooperation in marking the 10th Asian Track and Field Championships as a dynamic vehicle for the formation of desirable values and the promotion of peace and unity through sports among the youths of Asia.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
