[ Proclamation No. 79, October 22, 1992 ]

DECLARING THE LAST WEEK OF OCTOBER OF EVERY YEAR AS “INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS WEEK”

WHEREAS, Intellectual Property Rights – patents, trademarks, and copyrights- have gained universal importance because of the dominant role technology plays in influencing international economics and trade;

WHEREAS, government policies related to Intellectual Property Rights would have far-reaching economic implications on our trade relations with out trading partners;

WHEREAS, the recognition and adequate protection of the rights of inventors, authors, and trademark owners would enhance the economic environment needed to attract foreign investments;

WHEREAS, in the last week of October of this year, the Bureau of Patents, Trademarks and Technology Transfer, an agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, will celebrate its 45th anniversary and will henceforth celebrate its anniversary during the Intellectual Property Rights Week;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the last week of October of every year as Intellectual Property Rights Week. The Department of Trade and Industry is hereby directed to coordinate with the other departments of government dealing with science and technology, public and private academic institutions and other associations and groups involved in intellectual property rights in making the celebration of the week fruitful and meaningful.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, hereunder set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
