[ Proclamation No. 115, December 1, 1992 ]

DECLARING THE WHOLE MONTH OF DECEMBER OF EVERY YEAR AS “NATIONAL AIDS AWARENESS MONTH”

WHEREAS, the world today is faced with the threat of the disease AIDS or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which up to today has no known cure;

WHEREAS, national AIDS programs already exist in nearly all countries of the world including the Philippines, working to inform and educate the people about AIDS, how to avoid becoming infected and how to protect people;

WHEREAS, the Government of the Philippines desires to join the international community in the fight against this epidemic and to mobilize all sectors in the campaign to inform and educate people on simple precautionary measures against infection with the virus that causes AIDS; and

WHEREAS, there is a need to focus national attention on understanding and learning about AIDS;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the whole month of December of every year, as “National AIDS Awareness Month”.

I call upon the Department of Health to be the lead agency and all public and private offices, institutions and organizations to extend their assistance to make the observance of National AIDS Awareness Month meaningful and a success.1aшphi1

Proclamation No. 846 dated December 20, 1991 declaring December 21-27, 1991 and every year thereafter as “National AIDS Awareness Week” is hereby repealed.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
